Meet Your Instructor: Tim McWilliams
Professional Background
This session is led by Tim McWilliams, a volunteer firefighter for 34 years with the Webster Fire Department. In addition to responding to live emergencies, Tim is the owner of Canaan Fire, a premier commercial fire extinguisher inspection, maintenance, and refill provider. This unique background bridges the gap between active emergency response and strict regulatory compliance. As a business owner who services fire equipment every day, Tim knows exactly what safety auditors look for, how equipment fails in the field, and what it takes to keep your facility 100% compliant and audit-ready.
Event Overview
As safety professionals, you know that placing a fire extinguisher on a wall is not enough; your team must know how to use it safely under intense pressure. This workshop is designed specifically for EHS managers, safety directors, and compliance officers looking to elevate their organizational emergency readiness. This session bridges the gap between basic compliance andΒ proactive workplace safety culture, providing you with the tools to audit equipment, evaluate risks, and deliver impactful internal training.

Key Topics Covered
- The Science of Fire & Chemistry: Deep dive into the fire tetrahedron. Learn how different fuel sources sustain combustion and how to critically match advanced extinguishing agents to specific operational risks (Classes A, B, C, D, and K).
- The PASS Method (Perfected): Master the universal mechanics of Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep. Learn how to teach this muscle-memory technique to adult learners so they can execute it flawlessly during high-stress scenarios.
- Dynamic Risk Assessment: Evaluate smoke, heat, and fire progression in real time. Learn the exact metrics safety professionals use to judge when a fire is small enough to fight versus when it poses an immediate threat to life safety.
- Evacuation Planning & Trigger Points: Design foolproof egress strategies. Establish clear, non-negotiable trigger points that signal when an employee must abandon suppression efforts, activate the alarm, and evacuate immediately.
- Compliance Auditing & Inspections: Master the step-by-step protocols for mandatory monthly visual checks. Understand the technical requirements, documentation, and tags required for comprehensive annual professional inspections to ensure total audit readiness.
Hands-On Practical Session π
Put theory into immediate action during our interactive physical lab. You will have the opportunity to handle live equipment, practice the PASS technique on a controlled target, and run through inspection drills on real units.
